I'm an author who worked as a reporter and columnist at the Wall Street Journal before turning to books. My debut book, THE BARBARY PLAGUE: THE BLACK DEATH IN VICTORIAN SAN FRANCISCO, tells the story of an lethal outbreak compounded by racism, scapegoating and and science denial – much like epidemics today. My latest book, EVERYTHING SHE TOUCHED: THE LIFE OF RUTH ASAWA, recounts the hero's journey of a woman who survived poverty, racism and imprisonment in a WWII camp to triumph as an artist whose work is shown and celebrated around the world. I'm a graduate of Stanford with a Master's from UC Berkeley, and have taught writing at both schools. For more info, please visit my website: www.marilynchase.com. (Author photo by Laura Duldner)
