Hello! My new book is Born: A History of Childbirth for Bloomsbury Continuum, out August 2025. Previously, Milk of Paradise: A History of Opium (Macmillan, 2018) was Book of the Week for Radio 4, and for The Sunday Times. My first book, Georgian London, was published by Viking for Penguin in 2013 and shortlisted for the History Today Longman Prize. On screen I presented Fight Club: A History of Violence, about female bare-knuckle boxing and was on the Great British Bake Off, Grave Trade for the History Channel and The Georgians for the BBC. I pop up as a talking head on all sorts of programs - I love to talk all things history! When not doing any of the above and sometimes when I should be, I can be found on X or bluesky, talking about hipsters and people who have audible keystrokes on their phone. For the past two decades I have lived in the shadow of St Paul's cathedral in the City of London with my husband, and now our rescue dachshund Whitney Houston.
