There are certain birthdays that give one the right to say certain things about what he or she has learned over the years. I crossed a big milestone recently (we'll leave the math alone), but suffice to say that my time on the planet has allowed me the chance to watch God "show up" in unexpected ways. I've learned that whenever life seems at its most bewildering, God is at His best and is up to something HUGE. Conversations with Jesus is one example. It was written out of desperate need, during a difficult time with one of our children for whom Christianity seemed impossible to comprehend. What would Jesus say in a text msg? How would He reveal himself to a teenager? I've seen the Gospel overcomplicated and littered with embellishments and guilt. That is not what God intended "religion" to be. It is a relationship, a two-way communication made possible by scripture and loving mentors. That is WHAT I write about. My heart is for teens and young adults who need to know that Jesus is real, that a life of purpose isn't what we do or how many likes we get on a hilarious Instagram pic, but who we are in Christ: loved, forgiven, free. And that is WHY I write. It's a humbling experience. If any of it resonates with you as a reader, I am truly grateful to be a part of your faith journey.
