Lawrence Cromwell ( 1950- ). I was born and raised in South Miami, Florida, and graduated from Southwest Miami High School. I attended Miami Dade Jr. College and the University of Florida and was one of the first graduates of Florida International University, graduating in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in Sociology/Anthropology.
I worked for seven years as a land survey technician, then went off to teach math and science as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural, up-country Kenya, East Africa from 1984 to 1986. After returning, newly married to Suzanne Cromwell (married in Nairobi, Kenya, Africa), I taught math in Palm Beach County for five years, followed by fourteen years of teaching overseas with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in South Korea (Taegu and Osan) and Belgium (SHAPE American High School). During my overseas assignments, I taught AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, physics, Algebra 2, and regular chemistry. After returning to the States, I finished up my classroom teaching career with eight years of the same types of courses at Quantico Middle/High School in Northern Virginia. After moving to Florida in my semi-retirement, I taught and tutored in a private school in Juno, Florida.
FEEL FREE TO ROLL YOUR EYES AT THE LENGTHY CATALOGUE OF COURSES I TAUGHT WITH ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING. HAVE YOU NOTICED YET THAT I DON'T HAVE ANY FORMAL TRAINING IN JOURNALISM, WRITING, OR OTHER FIELDS THAT NORMALLY TRAIN SUCCESSFUL WRITERS? MORE ON THE JOB TRAINING. THIS TIME TO BECOME A WRITER! THAT MEANS I'VE MADE A TON OF MISTAKES ALONG THE WAY AND AM STILL LEARNING. NO, I'M NOT BRAGGING. I JUST NEVER HAD THE TIME OR RESOURCES TO GET THE FORMAL TRAINING. I HAD ALSO NEVER CONSIDERED MYSELF A WRITER UNTIL LATE IN LIFE!
Presently, I live in Hobe Sound, Florida and tutor part time statistics, algebra, geometry, and college algebra, physics, and chemistry in Juno Beach, Florida. When I'm writing a book, I do my writing in the early morning. My latest book took about 9 months to write, edit, and publish and another year and a half to come up with the final novel.
I'm a frequent contributor to Quora and to NextDoor.
I 'enjoy' running ( 3 marathons, around fifty half-marathons), creative writing, reading. humor and random studies. In my spare time, I partner with my wife in running an unofficial parrot rescue for eleven un-homed birds from parakeets to African Greys.
I received a utility patent in December of 2010. Amazing! Lots of work and money invested, zero income generated.
My most recent published works in eBook and paperback formats include: my novel "Seven Manipulated Minds", and the following short stories and anthologies: "Checking Out - A Supermarket Romance", "Unexpected Shorts"., "Crawl Naked Over Broken Glass", "Hide Anywhere", and "The Little Grey Plastic Box With the Blue Button". "Unexpected Shorts" is an anthology of ten of my short fiction features. The twist endings will challenge some of you to guess what will happen next.
My newest addition is my first full-length novel titled "Seven Manipulated Minds". It is a tale of revenge and undying love featuring a genius level autistic man, Alfred, who finds an almost perfect way to exact revenge on six of his former high school classmates who made his life a living hell. He hijacks their minds and places them in a nonexistent cyber room. Using his advanced invention, he forces them to experience unspeakable terror without laying a finger on them.
After their debt has been paid in full with interest, his plan suddenly morphs into an unexpected (for them) offer for them to join him in his mission to help improve the public image and treatment of autistic and otherwise unappreciated people. The seven of them become engaged in hijacking the minds of talk show hosts and other movers and shakers of public opinion. Alfred uses the help of his new team members to change the mind sets of the targeted celebrities. All goes according to plan until they hijack a highly dangerous person's mind. Every member of Alfred's team faces personal jeopardy as their enemy counterattacks.
At this time, I am considering following up on Seven Manipulated Minds with two more books as part of a trilogy.
Thank you and Happy Reading....
Lawrence
