Laurence Wilson, JD, AAML, has been a practicing divorce lawyer, mediator, collaborative attorney, private judge, and superior court judge pro tempore in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1975. During that time, he has helped more than 4,000 couples with their divorces. Larry was elected to fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers in the early 1980s, cofounded San Francisco’s first collaborative divorce group in the early 1990s, and has been selected as a Northern California Family Law Super Lawyer every year since 2006. He has written and presented specialty continuing education family law programs to countless California divorce lawyers for more than four decades. Larry was a star athlete in college where he excelled in track and earned All-American springboard diving honors in 1966. He later was inducted into the Lawrence University Intercollegiate Athletic Hall of Fame. He took up distance running in 1990 and has yet to stop, having competed in 131 marathons worldwide, including the 2013 Boston Marathon when the terrorist attacks occurred. He served two tours of duty in the US Air Force between 1967 and 1972 as a nuclear missile Combat Crew Commander with the 448th Strategic Missile Squadron in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Larry is an active volunteer with Lewis and Clark Law School, where he has served on the Board of Visitors for thirty years. He has provided substantial pro bono legal and other volunteer services for several marathon organizations, and actively supports various charitable initiatives in Monterey County and Big Sur, California. There are many writers in Larry’s family. Two of his great grandparents published books that can still be purchased on Amazon more than 100 years after they were first written. His son, Blake, is editorial director of the Well news desk at the New York Times. His daughter-in-law, Emily Weinstein, is editor-in-chief of New York Times Cooking and Food and is a best-selling author of Easy Weeknight Dinners. His older daughter, Faerlie, writes EMEA Investment Strategy content for BlackRock in London, and his younger daughter, Laura, is a full-time writer who lives in Petaluma, California. Larry and his wife, Morli, married for forty-nine years, live in Northern California.
