2021 Caregiver Friendly Award-winning author of the Amazon #1 best selling books: I Love You Always, One Family’s Alzheimer’s Dementia Journey and the Lessons Learned Along the Way, and Caregiver to Caregiver, A Scripture-Focused, Guided-Reflection Journal, LaBena Fleming was born in Detroit, Michigan, raised in Ravenna, Ohio, and presently resides in Richmond Heights, Ohio with her husband Michael (aka George). LaBena, a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), received her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Development from Notre Dame College of Ohio and master’s degrees in education and educational administration from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. A former insurance industry professional, teacher, school administrator, and community education and outreach coordinator for an organ and tissue procurement organization, LaBena retired from the position of Provider Relations Manager/Community Outreach and Education Coordinator with an area hospice in February of 2017. Post retirement, LaBena served as one of the primary caregivers for her mother, who had Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. She was compelled to journal and to later share what she'd learned during her journey as a caregiver. That experience was the impetus for her books and caused her to become a strong advocate for caregivers, Alzheimer’s, and other forms of dementia. In her spare time, LaBena enjoys spending time with her husband, daughters, and granddaughter. She also enjoys cooking, reading, public speaking, traveling, gardening, crocheting, and, of course, writing. She is in the process of writing her first non-fiction novel, which she hopes to publish soon.
