About The Author: Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Khadijah Butler is an Around-the-Way girl with a thirst for knowledge and a hunger for education equality amongst minorities. She is the founder and president of the Craig D. Butler Scholarship Foundation, with a B.S. in Kinesiology from Temple University and an M.S. in Management from Rosemont College. Strong, Brave, Fierce, and Full of Fire & Vigor, she looks every challenge dead in the eye and gives them a wink. When she is not writing or managing the foundation, she is amplifying her voice to remove economic hurdles for college-bound students in Philadelphia. About CDB Scholarship: The CDB Scholarship Foundation was established in January 2020, to honor the life of Craig D. Butler, for whom the scholarship is named, and to continue his legacy of integrity, generosity, and service. Craig was a dedicated husband and father of three, a true pillar of the Philadelphia community who also served his country in the United States Navy as a Pneumatic Tool Operator. His charismatic energy, love for his family, his ability to break out in song for no apparent reason, and tenacity to stand firm in his principles were the essence of who he was. Considering what would have been Craig’s 64th birthday, the Butler family organized this annual scholarship in his memory. CDB Scholarships' mission is to provide financial assistance to African American high school seniors in Philadelphia, PA in pursuit of higher education in the aftermath of gun violence. Our cardinal principle is to ensure minorities from underserved populations are not economically disadvantaged to receive a quality education. In addition to the scholarship, the CDB Foundation rallies for gun reform and education advocacy. Since 2021, our foundation has awarded 10 scholarships to deserving youth with outstanding achievements. Our commitment to our community to bridge education inequality and mobilize economic growth amongst minorities is boundless.
