Writing is a craft that needs to be nurtured, practiced and refined. It's a process that never stops. I've been refining my skills for almost twenty years. I may not be the next King, Tolkien or Martin but I've studied and learned a lot about crafting stories both fiction and non-fiction. In the early days, one gets excited about writing. 'Oh I have an idea, I'm going to write a book!', so the book gets written. There is less plot and structure, no great character development, just a series of events playing out from a beginning to an end. It's up to the author to learn and know all of the elements that make a good story. The first few books you see in my profile are early works, when I didn't have the full understanding of the craft. Anderoth's Dragon and Terth Willager are the earliest books - not terrible, maybe an entertaining read at least. Not going make any best sellers lists but that's part of the early process for self-published authors, learn from the mistakes. Joe's Sh!t Life came out at a time of unemployment and frustration and I didn't think it then, but became a foundation for the message I want to convey now, only without the frustration and from a much more spiritual perspective. I didn't just learn about writing since that book, but also about life in general. Then, I knew the world didn't make any sense; now, I understand more why it doesn't make any sense and I learned how it can be fixed. Through focus, intention and community. I have more writing projects on the go. The New Human series will expand and my next fiction set is a paranormal steampunk tale set across a trilogy. I hope you will join me for those!
