Dr. Kathryn Ritchie is the founder and CEO of Ignition Institute, a global strategy execution firm that helps organizations align, scale, and sustain high performance. With more than three decades of experience advising leaders across North America, Australia, and Asia, she is one of the most sought-after voices in the field of competitive strategy and execution. She holds an MBA and an honorary doctorate and was named one of Women Leader Magazine's Most Inspiring Leaders of 2022.

Her career began in an unlikely place: speech pathology, working with patients recovering from neurological injuries and strokes. That work gave her an early and enduring conviction—that when people have a clear goal and the right conditions to pursue it, the results can be extraordinary. From there, she was appointed managing director of a Sydney rehabilitation center at just 28, leading a team of experienced medical specialists who initially resisted her appointment. The lesson she drew from those difficult early months—that humility, listening, and earning the right to lead are the foundations of real authority—has shaped every client engagement since.

The pivot to strategy consulting came when a client told her plainly: "You have an instinctive sense of business, a deep understanding of human beings, and you are disciplined. I know you'll drive outcomes whether I pay you or not." That observation became the foundation of Ritchie's entire model.

Over three decades, she developed a body of work built on three core convictions: that strategy only lives if it shapes decisions and behavior every day; that without an aligned performance operating system, strategy cannot be executed optimally; and that execution lives or dies in what she calls the Middle Ground™—the often-neglected space between high-level strategic intent and day-to-day operational activity.

Ignition Institute stands apart from conventional strategy boutiques and organizational development firms by working across all of these disciplines simultaneously, because that is how organizational performance actually works. Ritchie's proprietary frameworks—the Ignition Method, the Middle Ground™, and the Performance Operating System™—have been deployed with leadership teams at organizations across multiple continents and industries.

She is a frequent speaker and trusted advisor to C-suite executives and boards, known for her directness, her comfort with uncertainty, and her insistence on honest, constructive challenge over comfortable agreement. Her thinking draws on a wide body of research—from structural dynamics and dialogue theory to behavioral economics and organizational change—and she is as rigorous in her application of it as she is practical in her delivery.

Ignition: The Art & Science of Strategy is her first book—a culmination of three decades of research, field experience, and hard-won insight into what separates organizations that execute from those that only plan. It is a book for leaders who are serious about closing the gap between where they are and where they intend to go.

Dr. Ritchie is based in the United States and works globally. She can be found at ignition. institute and on LinkedIn, where she regularly shares her thinking on strategy, leadership, and execution.
