…
Joseph Graff is a brilliant, young author and editor who has been writing science fiction since he was young. His literary works have already received high praise for their quality and prose, and he is consistently refining and improving his craft. Joseph is currently writing his latest book at his cluttered desk in his home in New Jersey.
James Graff (his father):
Joe has been reading aloud since he was an infant. He was speaking in two languages within his first four months. He was finding typos, spelling, and grammatical errors in thick textbooks edited by many people in our apartment in Tartu, Estonia.
He is an absolutely astounding prodigy.
At one year old, he sat up in his crib in our bedroom in Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, and began reciting from memory a couple of pages from a book. I caught the end on video (it is still up on Facebook). He had not only memorized The Caboose Who Got Loose by Bill Peet - with a Lexile measure of 1190L: a 4th to 7th-grade reader for ages 9 to 12 - he had corrected the English grammar mistakes (perhaps this is why he was now reciting it all verbatim from memory?)!!
He was learning like a sponge: a plethora of things on myriad topics - the stages of a four-stroke engine, the difference between RNA and DNA ("deoxyribonucleic acid"),the ATP/ADP cycle ("adenosine triphosphate - a precursor to DNA/RNA - processes metobolically into adenosine diphosphate giving off energy"...??) the names of all the presidents, dinosaurs, famous people, names for insects, birds, geometric figures, vehicles, aircraft, inventions, inventors, sea creatures, mammals, etc. IN FIVE DIFFERENT LANGUAGES...
Oh, and at least three or four hundred jokes that he could and would easily recite all of them at will.
At three he precociously impressed the head of Montessori Schools of New Jersey so much that he said that polyglot, polmath Joe should not be on local TV but on international TV instead - to show to the world what is possible in a three-year-old:
he had voluminous, expansive knowledge, could count to twenty in at least six languages, he was starting to speed read and he could do math well beyond his years.
At four he was correcting the "answers" given for his I.Q. test (they were claiming that a “lunar rover” was not a vehicle and that the sun did not rise in the “upward” direction…?).
He won every spelling contest astoundingly effortlessly. And every time he has addressed a crowd he has brought down the house with laughter - every single time (parents always want for their children what they don't have! I want Joe to get an amazing house full of toys...so I can move in!!) He even won the regional spelling bee in 5th grade - the first time his school had won in decades.
After a battery of tests, a panel of experts concluded that he had the vocabulary of a forty-three-year-old(??) man(???) ("Give it back Joe!")
That actualy makes sense: He has been continuously spead reading several long novels every week since he was about four.
We never put him on TV so he grew up speed reading - and writing - his very favorite literature, comedy, fantasy, and science fiction.
Joseph Graff is now a brilliant young author, proofreader, and editor in several genres (and languages!). His literary works have already received high praise for their quality and prose, and he is consistently refining and improving his craft. Joseph was just elected Scouting Patrol Leader and is currently writing his latest book at his cluttered desk at home in New Jersey.
Look for all of his works wherever great literature is sold!
