Jonathan M. Bryant has built a successful career in non-fiction, including essays, articles in anthologies, and two prizewinning books. Dark Places of the Earth: The Voyage of the Slave Ship Antelope, published by Liveright /W. W. Norton, won the GHRAC Research Award and was a finalist for the 2016 Los Angeles Times book prize in History. His earlier book, How Curious a Land: Conflict and Change in Greene County, Georgia, 1850-1885, was published by UNC Press. He appeared on PBS as an expert in the documentary Courtmaker: John Marshall and the Forging of America’s Supreme Court. Dr. Bryant knows that fiction is a powerful vessel for telling truth about the human condition. His novella, Blue Nude, was published as part of the collection Lowcountry Crime (Wolf’s Echo Press, 2017) and is now available on Amazon as an e-book or paperback. Two historically accurate novels, Neutrality Act and Dead Reckoning, were finalists for the 2025 Royal Palm Literary Awards from the Florida Writers Association. Dead Reckoning won a Royal Palm Award in its category, Historical Fiction.
