Jonathan Heppner is a writer, farmer, poet, and incurable seeker of the hidden life of things.

Born on the Canadian prairies, he has spent much of his life between cultures and countries. His rather unlikely geography has taken him from Saskatchewan to the Philippines, through communities of faith and humanitarian work, and eventually to the Greek island of Lesvos.

He now lives and works among olive trees, vegetables, dogs, refugees, farmers, and friends.

Jonathan is the co-founder of Hope Renews, a small regenerative farm and community project. Its work is rooted in a stubborn possibility: that damaged soil, fractured communities, and weary human beings might still become places where something beautiful can grow.

He writes from the meeting places—grief and joy, faith and uncertainty, belonging and exile, beauty and brokenness, the sacred and the wonderfully ordinary.

His work is shaped by a conviction that attention is a form of love. That mystery deserves more room than certainty usually allows. And that hope is not optimism, but a way of inhabiting the world.

He believes in crowded tables, good soil, difficult questions, unreasonable hospitality, old friendships, the holiness of food, and the quiet rebellion of planting something whose harvest you may never see.

These days, he can usually be found somewhere on Lesvos. There will be dirt beneath his fingernails, a notebook nearby, something fermenting in a vessel, and four dogs offering profoundly contradictory opinions about how the day ought to proceed.
