I’m Jonathan Azzarello, a worship pastor, writer, and musician exploring the power and beauty of transformational worship. Whether I’m writing books, leading worship, or helping others rediscover the sacred gift of song, my heart is to guide people into a deeper life of worship rooted in God’s love. I grew up in a Baptist preacher’s home in the San Francisco Bay Area and studied music near Silicon Valley. In 2011, my wife Rachel and I moved to North Carolina, where I’ve served as Worship Pastor at Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro ever since. We’re raising six incredible kids in Winston-Salem—and I spend my days leading worship, writing, and creating resources to equip others for lives of faithful worship and spiritual formation. In 2020, I released my first book, You Are What You Worship, a call for Christians to behold the love of God and become more like Christ. My second book, The Greatest Worship Leader, was written specifically for worship leaders navigating the tension between excellence and humility. My newest project, When We Sing, is a poetic hardcover coffee table book exploring why God commands us to sing. It’s for anyone—worship leader or not—who longs to understand the spiritual, emotional, and even scientific power of singing. I write and record songs for the church that reflect the heart of worship. Some of those include: “Good Shepherd” “I Surrender (Holy Spirit)” “Your Glory” I also contribute to The Way of Worship, a ministry that helps equip worship leaders to lead like Jesus through coaching, cohorts, and leadership resources. Worship isn’t just music—it’s how we live, love, and follow Jesus. I believe worship that transforms us begins with beholding the love of God and leads to lives of deep surrender and compassion. Whether I’m writing, leading, or creating resources for churches, my hope is to point people back to the God who sings over us—and invites us to sing back.
