John Ryan has won numerous accolades as a legal affairs journalist over the past twenty-five years for his coverage of complex domestic and international issues. Since 2015, John has been one of just two reporters in the world to report regularly on the military tribunals from Guantanamo Bay, earning two New York Press Club Awards for his work. Prior to co-founding the legal media company Lawdragon, John was a reporter for the Los Angeles Daily Journal. The Los Angeles Press Club named him a “Print Journalist of the Year Finalist” all three years between 2003 and 2005, and he twice won the award for “Best Magazine Feature.” John has traveled to South Africa, The Hague, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Rwanda to report on how post-conflict societies forge accountability mechanisms for war crimes and other human rights abuses. He has a MA in human rights studies from New York University and a BA from Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
