John Mini, MSCM, LAc, Dipl Ac has been in private medical practice as an acupuncturist and traditional Chinese herbalist in northern California since 1988. John has studied the beliefs and sciences of indigenous cultures since he was a child, leading him to explore a number of traditions first hand and to go through many fascinating and unique experiences while traveling abroad, studying and practicing both indigenous and modern sciences to discover how best to help his patients and educate those interested through writing, non-profit work and leading seminars and workshops.

John’s background includes graduating with honors from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, receiving one of the first four fully accredited Master of Science of Traditional Chinese Medicine degrees in the United States, and intensive study, practice and apprenticeship with Dr. Lai Yat Ki, founder of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Richard Tan, founder of the Balance Method, native Aztec elders, Dr. Bindu Kumar Purohit, lineage holder of the White Tantra lineage, Madam Ou Yang Ming Yu, lineage holder of Yu’s Qi Gong and many others.

John has authored numerous published books and articles on the subjects of Traditional Chinese Medicine and indigenous medicine and religion, including Day of Destiny and The Aztec Virgin, both of which relate to the practice of Aztec medicine and religion. His intensive clinical research into the short and long-term effects of marijuana use and how to balance them from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine and other indigenous medical sciences led to the release of the first comprehensive book on the diagnosis and treatment of marijuana syndromes using traditional Chinese medicine, entitled Marijuana Syndromes, which continues to endure as a reference standard for health care professionals who work with people that habitually take marijuana.

John has delivered media appearances and lectures across a spectrum of academic and social institutions from small rural classrooms to the United Nations, and continues his arc of research, teaching and clinical practice to include translation and rewriting of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia to create The Min Jie Pharmacopoeia, and the founding of the Min Jie School.
