Captain (Retired) Joel Schofer is a Certified Physician Executive and is board-certified in Emergency Medicine. From 2024 to 2026, he served as the Commanding Officer of USNMRTC Guam and the Director of US Naval Hospital Guam. He is a recovering Detailer, Specialty Leader, and Deputy Medical Corps Chief, but is mostly known for his blog. He has over 400 professional publications, podcasts, and presentations, has held numerous national and state leadership positions, and has won national academic and educational awards. He holds an academic appointment as an Associate Professor of Military and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and American Association for Physician Leadership. His military decorations include the Combat Action Ribbon, 2 Legion of Merit awards, a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, 3 Meritorious Service Medals, and 4 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
