The Crooked Dog series is a series of books for children that teaches lessons such as responsibility of having a pet, on not picking on others, and many other lessons. The main characters are Jo Jo the Dachshund and Kelly, the little boy who got to adopt Jo Jo. I have been a banker for over 30 years but when I became a grandmother, the whole game changed with my heart. I have two grandsons, Stanley who is 10 and Bristow who is 6. Their parents read several books to them every night and when they are with me, we read together. I have quite a large library of children's books. A few months ago, I realized I love these books and wanted to be an author also. My family has many very good artists and I picked up on that also. So I do all the illustrations in the books. I always have happy movies on the TV while drawing so that the pictures are happy and child like. It seems to work for me. I have lived all my life in Hawaii. But, 5 years ago, my daughter, son-in-law and grandsons left Hawaii and moved to Bali. So now I have become a world traveler which is a lot of fun and gives me a much bigger view of the world. All of my life, my family has had dogs, mostly Dachshunds. One of the litters was name Bibity, Bobity and Boo after a famous Disney show. These books are about Jo Jo, my youngest Dachshund. I got a call from a rescue group that they had this sweet little guy who needed a home. Well, that was that. He became a part of our family., absolutely and totally forever, as it should be. He had some problems at the beginning including breaking his back a few months after joining us. But with a lot of care and time, he has healed and is healthy and happy, but just a little crooked, thus the name The Crooked Dog series. I firmly believe that when anyone brings a pet into their home, it is for life, a forever family. My oldest dog, Lucy, passed away about 3 months ago, she was 15 years old. My current dogs are Nani and Jo Jo. Nani, also a Dachshund and also a rescue (I do know her birthday), is about to celebrate her 16th birthday and she is doing very well. We think Jo Jo is about 6 years old, not sure since he was a rescue and he was found by the dog catcher. I talked with the dog catcher and he said he was running loose on a golf course, he was terrified and very skinny. He had no tag and no chip. No one ever called for him. I can't imagine how anyone could do that to an animal, but they do. Any pet will live a long healthy life with love, care, exercise and a good diet. They are like children, they need to be loved and they will give love back every second of their lives. Jo Jo became our forever dog on Mother's Day, 2011.
