About the Author Standing atop a snowfield at 12,000 feet in 1975, Jerry Fabyanic scanned the expanse and said, "Holy, shit! This is it." He quit his job, packed his truck, and headed west without looking in the rearview mirror. Deciding that the only thing he ever wanted to be was a teacher, Jerry began his literal journey into world of public education in which he taught English and social studies and into the symbolic world of myth and story. He counts Herman Melville, John Steinbeck, Toni Morrison, and Joseph Campbell among his most influential thinkers and greatest heroes. Jerry is an essayist and award-winning author of "Sisyphus Wins," "The Lion's Den: Book Two in the Sisyphus Series," and "Food for Thought: Essays on Mind and Spirit, Volume One" which garnered a first-place for Prose Collection by the Colorado Authors League and "Food for Thought: Essays on Mind and Spirit, Volume Two." Jerry also does presentations and leads workshops on writing. Jerry has learned the importance of being mindful. His daily practices include paying attention to guideposts, junctures that initially seem coincidental but prove to be path-altering experiences. He has run seven marathons, has climbed thirty-four of Colorado's 14'ers, and still loves carving the bumps through the powder and timber of Mary Jane's Eagle Wind territory. Whether running at 8,500 feet, reaching for an outcropping at 13,000 feet, or skiing moguls, Jerry reminds himself of his place and role as a denizen of Mother Earth. Jerry lives in the historical mining town of Georgetown in Clear Creek County, Colorado, where he explores the symbolic world of myth and story in his writings from atop his aerie. As the years pass, Jerry’s love affair with the Colorado Rocky Mountains grows deeper. You can read more about Jerry and his works at www.jerryfabyanic.com.
