Janet Hoggarth has worked on a chicken farm, as a bookseller, a children’s book editor, a children’s author, and as a DJ (under the name of Whitney and Britney). Her first children’s book The Whole Joke Book was Bloomsbury Children’s Books bestselling title until Harry Potter knocked it of its perch. After the writing bug bit her she published several other children’s books, more recently under the pseudonym of Jess Bright. Her first novel for adults, The Single Mums’ Mansion (Head of Zeus), reached the number one slot on the Amazon fiction charts. Two more books subsequently joined the bestselling series: The Single Mums Move On and The Single Mums’ Secrets. Who Do You Think You Are Maggie Pink? was published by Boldwood to rave reviews in 2022 and reached number one on several Amazon charts in the UK, Australia and the US. This was followed by Us Two in 2023. Her new novel, The Swim, about a woman swimming the English Channel, is published on May 7th 2025. Janet lives with her husband, three children and an extremely needy ginger cat in East Dulwich, London. Janet has featured on the Victoria Derbyshire Show on BBC2, London Tonight on ITV, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Jersey, The Guardian newspaper, The Sun newspaper, Prima magazine, Myself (in Germany), The Express, Best Magazine, That’s Life (in Australia) and The Daily Mail. Latterly she has appeared in the i Newspaper, The Sunday Times Style, and two books: Urban Communal Living in Britain (Diggers and Dreamers Publications), and Bad Friend: A Century of Revolutionary Friendships (Faber 2025) by Dr Tiffany Watt Smith. She contributed to and took part in the 2024 BBC documentary about mummunes, It Takes a Village.
