JL Civi (aka JLC) writes genre-blurring stories anchored by warm human relationships with equal parts wry humor and heartbreaking urgency. Music and time travel turn up frequently in his work — often in the same stories — even when he starts off with something else in mind. His fourth wall breaking narrators are an acquired taste using a unique voice described as quietly eerie, slightly ridiculous, relatably self-aware, and weirdly wise.

TIMELY PERSUASION follows a music critic traveling through time, while standalone sequel LOCAL BOY DONE GONE studies the impact of time travel manipulation on a 1970s folk singer. L EXTREME is a surrealist song-by-song novelization of the album A Love Extreme by musician Benji Hughes. JLC's DUTY CALLS series of shorts follows 12 jurors in flashback adventures before they were selected to serve.
