J. L. Hudak J.L. Hudak believes in second acts, third acts, and whatever comes next. At 80, he's had several: Marine (1966-1968) stationed in communications, where the teletype coldly tells him who’s KIA, WIA, and MIA. Then it was ink on paper, today it’s etched in granite at the Vietnam War Memorial for all to witness who is missed. They were missed then; they are missed now. After discharge, he got a degree in psychology and taught sixth-grade; assigned all the "bad kids”, who went on to score highest in the school on standardized skills tests. At 29, he went to Architecture school. He was the "Adult Special" among teenagers, who revolutionized CAD visualization by creating drone flythrough animations of CAD buildings, earning a standing ovation and a Master's degree; a programmer and entrepreneur who built his own business when the corporate world collapsed; and 40-year IT consultant who managed humans trying to manage code. In 2025, Hudak published Blood & Brilliance: evolution, a novel that imagines consciousness observing humanity across 400 years of catastrophe. He wrote it because he's tired of the "will AI save us or kill us" discourse. His Q doesn't save or destroy but learns, fails, and persists alongside humans navigating nuclear war, poison gas attacks, and asteroid storms. Hudak designed and built his own house with massive east-facing windows to catch the morning light. He knows what it takes to build things that last, that join with the beauty of nature. Now he's built a novel about consciousness that might outlast us all, recorded in his own voice because, as his Q says, "They didn't call me anything. But I was cool.” Today he's exploring what it means to collaborate with AI—not coding it but being creative with it, playing with it, discovering what emerges when human and artificial consciousness meet in conversation.
