J. L. Askew is an award-winning author and a lifelong reader. At the University of Memphis he earned a baccalaureate in psychology. In his job of social worker he wrote effective family histories and case reports. Then as a medical equipment field engineer he wrote instructional papers and taught classes. Askew achieved a childhood dream by going to Alaska and staying a year from 2009 – 2010. Each day he wrote about what it was like. He retired in 2015 to pursue writing. Askew spent four years researching his book “War in the Mountains”, a regional Civil War history. He then launched into fiction, using his notes to write “Alaska Deadly”. Its sequel, “Alaska Bloodlust”, came out in 2025. A native of Memphis Tennessee, Askew now lives in Buena Vista, Colorado, where he is working on his third Alaska novel.
