Hermann-Josef Tenhagen is one of Germany's best-known consumer finance journalists and one of the country's leading voices on personal finance and consumer protection. For more than three decades, he has helped millions of people make smarter financial decisions through independent journalism and practical, easy-to-understand advice.

Tenhagen has twice been named "Business Journalist of the Year" (Wirtschaftsjournalist des Jahres), Germany's most prestigious award for business and consumer journalism. Under his leadership, Finanztip was named "Editorial Team of the Year" in 2021.

As Editor-in-Chief of Finanztip, Germany's leading independent personal finance platform, he heads a newsroom dedicated to making financial decisions as simple as possible. Finanztip is owned by the non-profit Finanztip Foundation and reaches millions of consumers every month through its website, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, podcasts, and newsletters. Its YouTube channel has more than 600,000 subscribers, while its Instagram and TikTok channels each reach around 500,000 followers. The weekly Finanztip newsletter is Germany's largest editorial newsletter, with more than one million subscribers.

Before joining Finanztip, Tenhagen spent 15 years as Editor-in-Chief of Finanztest, Germany's leading consumer finance magazine, published by Stiftung Warentest, the country's independent consumer testing organization.

For Tenhagen, outstanding journalism is about more than reporting facts—it is about helping people make better decisions. Reflecting that commitment, he serves on the Administrative Board of the Consumer Advice Centre of Saxony (Verbraucherzentrale Sachsen) and is a juror for the Helmut Schmidt Journalism Award, Germany's most prestigious prize for business journalism. He also served for 21 years on the Supervisory Board of the taz cooperative, Germany's largest newspaper cooperative.

Tenhagen studied Political Science and Economics in Bonn, Berlin, and Texas. When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, he was on a train to Berlin. The following morning, while still a university student, he helped organize the logistics for the Berlin bureau of the Associated Press.
