Glen Tullman is the chairman and chief executive officer of Livongo Health. Livongo is empowering people with chronic conditions to live better and healthier lives. The company does this using a combination of innovative technology paired with personalized and context-sensitive information that is delivered when and where it is most impactful at improving health. While it all started with diabetes, today Livongo is the leading consumer digital-health company focusing on chronic conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, weight management, nutrition, and diabetes prevention. And by the time this goes to print, it may well include other chronic conditions because the company believes that to focus on health, you have to focus on the whole person, and that means addressing all of their health concerns. A visionary leader and entrepreneur, Tullman previously led two public companies that changed the way health care is delivered. Most recently, he served as chief executive officer of Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX), a leading provider of electronic health records, practice management, and electronic prescribing systems, where during his tenure, he grew revenues from $30 million in 1997 to more than $1.4 billion in 2012 and led the company’s initial public offering and secondary offerings. Prior to Allscripts, Tullman was chief executive officer of Enterprise Systems, which was at the time a leading health-care information services company that provided resource-management solutions to large, integrated health-care networks and hospital systems, which he also took public before it was sold to McKesson HBOC (NYSE: MCK). Tullman is also co-founder and managing partner of 7wireVentures, a $100 million venture firm focused on early-stage health-care investing. Glen has founded or cofounded a number of ventures, including one of the country’s leading commercial solar energy companies, SoCore Energy, sold to Edison Ventures, and a digital education company, now a part of Modern Teacher, and holds investments in several ventures focused on mobile and cloud-based health solutions. His broad interests range from ownership of Ignite Glass Studios in Chicago, one of the country’s largest glass studios, to a major investment in Argo Tea, the largest independent tea company in the United States. Talk to him about his success and he’ll immediately call out the people who surround him—longtime business partners Lee Shapiro and Joe Carey, who have been with him across many different businesses, and board members like Phil Green and Bob Compton, whom he names as mentors, investors, and most importantly, friends. As a recognized leader in health care and entrepreneurship, Glen has been a contributor to Forbes and other leading publications, and is sought after as a speaker and industry expert on innovation and change. A strong proponent of philanthropy, he serves as a chancellor to the international board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Glen has three amazing children, all unique, and credits their mother, Trish, for giving them the grounding and balance to deal with his intensity.
