I always had a passion for writing and during my banking apprenticeship I worked part-time for the local newspaper “Solothurner Zeitung” where I was assigned to 2 local activities per week, including movie reviews.
My first assignment was the Clint Eastwood movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I covered many musical and sporting events as well as reporting on political meetings, such as inter provincial conferences. My favorite article was the story I wrote about my interview with a famous painter named A,R,Thur who had just completed the portrait paintings of J. F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie as well as Aga Khan. He had offices in Marseille, Paris and New York, but he grew up in a neighbor village and was visiting while doing a portrait painting of Miss Swiss.
After I completed my banking apprenticeship, I started writing stories. My first story is a novel based on the “Freimaurer Society” (Masonic Lodge) in Switzerland and it’s called “Why So Sad Mr. Odd?” and I wrote a play based on the life of a young desolate man who grew up through the foster parent system and it’s called “Too Blind to See”. However, I decided to immigrate to Canada, and I never published any of my writings. I translated both the novel and the play into English, and I still hope to publish them one day soon.
Due to the pandemic, I was not able to travel to China on business and I started writing my experiences of my over 50 business trips and over 800 days spend in China. My friends in China and my Chinese friends around the Toronto area urged me to write a book about my experiences in China and they encouraged me to call it A White Man's China. I wrote the book to help people to understand the cultural differences and how the Chinese and Western people see each other.
