Garrett Peck is an author, public historian, and tour guide in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His ninth and latest book is "The Bright Edges of the World: Willa Cather and Her Archbishop," due out from University of New Mexico Press on February 17, 2026. Peck leads numerous history-related tours in the Santa Fe area, including the Willa Cather's Santa Fe tour, and also teaches stargazing in New Mexico's gorgeous dark skies. He encourages everyone to be a literary tourist. Peck is especially fascinated by Prohibition and has often incorporated the "Noble Experiment" into his books. Back when he lived in Washington, DC, he was involved with the DC Craft Bartenders Guild in lobbying the City Council to have the Rickey declared Washington's native cocktail, based on his book "Prohibition in Washington, D.C.: How Dry We Weren't." Peck has lectured at the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and the Smithsonian, and often speaks at bookstores, literary clubs, historical societies, and trade associations. Peck graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and earned a master's degree in international affairs at George Washington University. Peck worked more than two decades in telecom marketing and is a former U.S. Army officer. A native Californian, he lives in Santa Fe.
