Francesca G. Varela is the author of four environmentally-themed novels: CALL OF THE SUN CHILD (2014), LISTEN (2016), THE SEAS OF DISTANT STARS (2018), and BLUE MAR (2021). Her writing is informed by a master's degree in environmental humanities and a rich, lifelong passion for nature. Francesca has received numerous acknowledgements for her writing over the years, including the 2019 Independent Publisher Book Award for Science Fiction and the 2014 Moonbeam Bronze Medal for Best First Book. In addition to being an author herself, Francesca is a freelance copy editor who helps indie authors bring out the best in their books. When not working, Francesca enjoys hiking, kayaking, playing piano, drawing, figure skating, doing yoga, walking her dog, Cashew, and exploring Oregon’s wild places.
