For 75 years, millions of Palestinians yearn to return home to Palestine, to what has become Israel. Fida Jiryis is one of a handful who did return to her native village in the Galilee, and what she experienced will shatter how most people view Israel. A Palestinian writer who grew up in Lebanon and Cyprus, Fida’s life has spanned the full spectrum of her people’s forced fragmentation: in Israel, the West Bank and the diaspora. Her writings include several collections of Arabic short stories; a contribution to Kingdom of Olives and Ash, a Washington Post bestseller on 50 years of Israeli occupation; and Amputated Tongue, a Hebrew-language anthology of Palestinian literature. Stranger in My Own Land describes her journey and tells the story of Palestine. Having lived in the UK and Canada, as well, she shatters the myths held by much of the Western world about her home.
