I think my interest in fantasy must have begun as early as the age of five, when my minister father had me tested and found I was reading over two hundred words a minute. He quickly saw the need to feed my thirsty young mind and placed books like The Chronicles of Narnia and Howard Pyle's King Arthur and Robin Hood in my hands. I'm pretty sure I've lived most of my life seeing the world through a coke-bottle-thick lens of metaphor and imagination. As for my absorption with stories of redemption, I'd have to say my strongest interest came from the need for it in my own life. That need has shaped me and shaped my writing, much more than any list of qualifications, which include being a licensed minister, a professional pianist and cinematic composer, and now a published author. In all of my artistic endeavors, I purpose to use imagery very intentionally, knowing that art can teach the heart without preaching, inspire and heal the soul without patronizing, and ultimately change culture with the divine work that happens within. I reside with my husband in the Southeastern United States in a musical and somewhat magical house, where conversation is often full of talk about real-life legends, myths, and other fantasy tales.
