Emily Hibard grew up in the East Los Angeles suburb of Downey, California, and travelled to all seven continents before her thirtieth birthday. A risk taker and adventurer, she has climbed Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, kayaked in Antarctica and the Arctic Ocean, explored Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, climbed Petra’s ancient caves, floated on Lake Titicaca, boated down Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, SCUBA dived Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, walked Israel’s Via Dolorosa, ran the LA Marathon, twice, and kissed Ireland’s Blarney Stone. Emily studied Modern Political Thought at the University of Oxford, St. Edmund Hall, earned a bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from Azusa Pacific University and holds a Master of Arts degree in Public Administration (MPA) from California State University, Northridge, where she specialized in Nonprofit Management. At twenty-six years old, she served as a Cable Television Commissioner in Los Alamitos, California. She later served as a Board Member on the Studio City Neighborhood Council in the City of Los Angeles. In 2022, she was elected to the Los Alamitos City Council. In 2012, Emily founded a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization. Others began asking how they too can start a nonprofit organization, so she started helping others navigate through the incorporation process. In 2015, she published her first nonprofit book, Starting Your Nonprofit, a detailed 200-page guidebook on how to start a nonprofit organization. In 2017, she published Starting Your Nonprofit: California, her first state-specific guidebook with detailed instructions on how to start a nonprofit in California. In 2020, she published Starting Your Nonprofit: Oregon. For over a decade, Emily Hibard has been coming along side individuals looking for some additional support to get their nonprofits incorporated and operating. Countless nonprofit organizations throughout the country have been created as a result of the guidance they have received from Emily Hibard and her nonprofit resources.
