Elle Pepper, born 1979, resides in California's Central Valley. Her eclectic taste in books has led to her rather unconventional style which she refers to as 'Experimental Cross genre." While relatively unknown on the writing front,she is undaunted by the odds and says that she will 'keep telling the stories that [she] must tell, in whatever voice [she] is needed to tell the story." "Flag of Bones was kind of an accident of two fundamental story questions colliding with an unusual name. The questions were "what if gunpowder never existed?" and "what if the pirates are the good guys?"The odd name? Leshawn. And my brain came up with the idea of the captain going by the name Leshawn to hide his given name. From there the story, shown as a type of retelling, sort of wrote itself."
