Elizabeth Wardle is University Distinguished Professor as well as the Roger and Joyce Howe Distinguished Professor of Written Communication and Director of the Howe Center for Writing Excellence at Miami University (OH). She is the author of a number of books and articles about writing including Writing about Writing (with Doug Downs), Naming What We Know: Threshold Concepts of Writing Studies and Writing Expertise: A Research-Based Approach to Writing and Learning Across Disciplines (both with Linda Adler-Kassner), and Changing Conceptions, Changing Practices: Innovating Teaching Across Disciplines (with Angela Glotfelter, Caitlin Martin, Mandy Olejnik, and Ann Updike). She has received numerous awards for her scholarship, including for outstanding scholarship in writing program administration (2022), best article of the year in the teaching of technical and scientific communication (2006), and outstanding contribution to the discipline of writing studies (2016). She has received the Miami University Faculty Scholar Award (2020) and the Iowa State University Distinguished Alumni Award (2012). She regularly speaks and gives workshops around the country on writing, teaching, threshold concepts, and writing program design.
