Elijah Haile writes for the reader who has felt the edges of the Bible open onto something older, wider, and stranger, and has had no map for it.
He grew up in a family that belongs to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, a Christian tradition that kept the Books of Enoch and Jubilees as living scripture for centuries after the West had set them aside. For Elijah, these texts were never exotic. He first heard them in the long liturgies of his childhood, chanted in Ge’ez, and in the stories his grandmother told about the Watchers and the righteous scribe who walked with God. Only later, as an adult reader, did he discover how unfamiliar they were to most Christians in the English-speaking world, and how often they were presented as fringe curiosities or suppressed secrets.
His work focuses on the Books of Enoch, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the wider Ethiopian canon. Elijah believes these writings form one continuous river of tradition that shaped the world of the New Testament, and that they deserve to be read with both reverence and care.
Too many books on these subjects fall into one of two traps. Some are written only for specialists. Others trade accuracy for sensation and conspiracy. Elijah writes in the space between. His editions put clear, modern English beside guided commentary, so readers never face a difficult passage alone. He builds on decades of respected scholarship and says plainly where the evidence is uncertain. He never assumes a seminary degree, or any knowledge of Hebrew, Aramaic, or Ge’ez.
His conviction is simple: these books were never hidden from us. They were kept for us.
