Dr. Julie Basler spent nearly three decades in higher education leadership, ultimately serving as a college president before stepping into her most meaningful work yet: saying out loud what most leaders are still afraid to say. She is a national keynote speaker on mental health in leadership, a published author, and an advocate who has stood on stages across the country telling the truth about what it costs to lead while quietly coming apart, and what becomes possible when you finally stop pretending you are fine. Her willingness to speak openly about her own mental health struggles earned her recognition as one of the Top 20 PeopleChanging Career Education in the United States in 2022. She has received the President of the United States Volunteer Service Award three times, earning gold medals under both Presidents Obama and Trump for her commitment to career and technical education. In fall 2023, her alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Martin, named her Outstanding Alumnus of the Year. She holds a doctorate in English with a focus on composition and rhetoric, and has testified at the state and national level as a nonpartisan advocate for students. Dr. Basler lives outside Denver with her husband Steve and their long-haired dachshund. She and Steve are the proud parents of two daughters.
