After surviving his own adventures as a member of a school band, “Doc” Smith finds himself enjoying his third decade in the exciting world of music education. With his music ensembles consistently rated at the highest levels, Smith enjoyed having his two sons as middle school students while actively publishing journal articles about innovative pedagogies that he has developed. “Band of Friends: Holiday Surprises” is Smith’s second offering in a series of YA fiction about middle level music students and their adventures in and out of the music room. Doc is already excited about completing the third book, “Band of Friends: Band Trip,” targeted for a spring 2019 release. As a past president of RIMEA and active advocate for music education, the author has dedicated this book to all students that include music as a part of their school day and promises to donate a percentage of all proceeds to support music programs.
