Donald Hammond was born in Troy, New York but relocated at the age of 6 months. Growing up in Washington state and later Southern California, he was exposed to diverse cultures and a multitude of ideas. Despite dropping out of High School, Donald embarked on his college journey at the remarkable age of 15, a rarity in the early 1970s. It was during this time that he first delved into the world of computers, discovering his passion for them and nurturing a deep affection. To evade the draft, Donald made the decision to volunteer for the U.S. Navy, dedicating 12 1/2 years of his life as a nuclear-trained Electrician's Mate on submarines. This remarkable experience took him on global voyages and played a significant role in honing his dry wit and expanding his scientific knowledge, serving as inspiration for his ventures into the realm of science fiction. True to his devotion, Donald gravitates towards pure science fiction, morphing the fantasy genre and narratives into a science fiction style. At the tender age of 18, Donald married his sweetheart, and together they have navigated life's challenges since 1976. Successfully raising three children, their family has expanded to include 6 beloved grandkids, although they reside at a distance. Presently, their household is brimming with the company of numerous cats. Donald and his spouse are actively involved in feline rescue and fostering under Clowder House Feline Rescue, specializing in Special Needs kitties, the most challenging cases.
