Don Funk has over 52 years of actual hands-on experience in the automotive aftermarket business. After high school, Don’s career started as a tire tech handling all cars, light trucks, semis, trailers, agricultural and industrial repairs. With a desire to advance his career, he joined Western Canada’s largest transmission re builder in Saskatoon. After a brief period, he accepted a promotion to the headquarters in Edmonton. He became the parts manager controlling purchasing for 28 outlets, moved to assistant Service Manager, Manager, and finally to troubleshooter for this firm. While in Edmonton, Don graduated from NAIT with a Business Management Diploma and wrote his Journeymen’s ticket. He worked in every sector of the auto service industry which included starting his own transmission business which consisted of six stores in five different locations. Next, he worked with the OEM, and then moved to accepting the service manager’s role for Canada’s largest chain known as Canadian Tire. During his 18 years with Canadian Tire, he grew the Saskatoon location to becoming the #1 volume auto center sales store in a chain of nearly 500 stores. His next venture was to begin his Auto Service Consulting career to assist other stores to grow their own brand. During one visit, he was asked to consider taking over the role as Service Manager in a Calgary Canadian Tire store due to an illness of their current Auto Service Manager. During that 13-month period he, along with his team, grew the business from 75th, position to #4 position, while adding $2.55 million in new sales, and this while undertaking a major Reno of ½ million dollars, lasting 6months. Without this Reno he believes the real potential could have been a further 1 million dollars in sales.
