Don M Fox has written on diverse topics, including military history, the restaurant industry, amateur astronomy, and photography. Fox published his first book, "Patton's Vanguard - The United States Fourth Armored Division", in 2003. (A soft-cover edition was released in 2007, and the Kindle edition in 2015.) His second book, "Final Battles of Patton's Vanguard - The United States Army Fourth Armored Division, 1945-1946" was published in March 2020 and completes the history of the division. "You're A Good Man, Sergeant" was released in 2024. The work is a collaboration with the family of the late Sergeant Paul S. Porter, a decorated veteran of the Fourth Armored Division. The heart and soul of the book is Porter's previously unpublished combat memoir. Fox served as editor and contributor. His most recent work, "The Fourth Armored Division Combat Chronology," was released in January of 2026. The book is a day-by-day account of the division's time in combat from July 1944 through May 1945 and takes advantage of new material uncovered by the author since the release of the books in 2003 and 2020. Don's career in the restaurant industry spanned 50 years. He is the former chief executive officer of Firehouse Subs and now serves on a number of boards in the profit and non-profit arenas, including the Army Historical Foundation (a key mission of which is the construction and operation of the National Museum of the United States Army), the National Restaurant Association, the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, and the Flagler College Business Advisory Board. Fox's next book, scheduled for release in early 2026, is the history of Firehouse Subs, a compelling story of a special restaurant brand launched by two firefighter brothers.
