Diane Helentjaris writes about overlooked people, hidden gems whose lives have been waiting to be rediscovered. The first book in her series, The Life and Times of Ivy O'Neill, is The Indenture of Ivy O'Neill. It won the Maryland Writers' Association Novel Competition in history and romance in 2024 and, in 2026, is the winner of PenCraft's Seasonal Book Award in the Fictional - Historical Category. Book 2 in the series is Ivy in America. Her book "I Ain't Afraid" – The World of Lulu Bell Parr, Wild West Cowgirl is the first biography detailing the exciting life of the Wild West star. A native of Dayton, Ohio, Helentjaris grew up in nearby Medway before going north to college. At Michigan State, she earned her BA cum laude in Interdisciplinary Humanities, an MD, and - at the University of Michigan - an MPH. After a career in clinical and public health medicine, she returned to her humanities roots to write. She lives with her family in the Piedmont of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.
