Derek is a positive psychology practitioner, flow coach and alpine ski teacher. He has spent the last 35 years teaching people of all ages and abilities to ski, including training and examining ski instructors for several national governing bodies/training organisations. As a PG Sports Coaching graduate of Moray House, Edinburgh in 1992 he has always been passionate about how people learn and the psychology of learning. This led to more recent studies and research when he embarked on the MSc Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) at Buckinghamshire New University graduating with distinction in 2019. His passion for writing has developed over this time and involved coaching manuals, student resources and books all related to teaching and learning. He regularly writes blogs for the Parallel Dreams Coaching Academy https://www.paralleldreams.co.uk/blog He wrote and published his first book in 2007; Parallel Dreams Alpine Skiing: Taking your performance to new levels. His more recent books have been in the psychology/self-help genre such as Learn, Enjoy, Flow and Grow: Using the principles of positive psychology to help find passion and meaning in life which has been published in paperback, ebook and audio formats.
