Debbie Wastling hails from Yorkshire and is a writer of British Historical novels, though she lives in Los Angeles. She started writing in High School when she wrote her first produced play, going on to professionally direct over 75 musicals and plays and write new music. Lately grant writing has been her forte for arts education. The first novel in this series brings her grandparents' romance to the page and tells of The Flying Scotsman, flappers, and 1920s music, which she hopes will make your hearts dance and sing. She now has 4 novels in the Bell Series: The companion to the Flying Scotsman is the Bell family "The Soundtrack of Their Lives" in war-torn Hull, Yorkshire, which was the 2nd most bombed city in England next to London, due the German planes flying over the city nightly. The Bells danced and sang their way through the war, while their father drove trains in blackout conditions, then at home worked on the bomb squad putting out fires caused by the bombs. The Sutherland Scandals tells of Elizabeth Sutherland (nee Neil-Gregory), which tells the Newcastle love story between Percy Neil-Gregory and suffragist Elizabeth Sutherland. After the sudden death of their brewer father, their family pub is taken over by an illegitimate older brother, and the children lose their home from his illegal gambling and have to find their way in the world. The couple moved to Hull, Yorkshire, to find a better place to work. Irish Secrets and Lies tells the love story of JB Sutherland and Martha Lowery, who built up their pub business in the Barley Mow to be the most popular pub by the River Tyne in Newcastle. It will be out late 2025. All these novels tell the true stories of Debbie's British ancestors – it will be a 5-book Bell series – with the final one called "You Can't Always Get What You Want" set in the 1950s & 1960s – the story of the three Bell sisters and their arguments as a family during a changing time for women who would not kowtow to men.
