Dawn Wightman Perrault is an award-winning indie author and founder of Emerson Road Press, based in the Finger Lakes Region of Central New York. Semi-retired from a 30-year civil-service career at her alma mater, she later earned a Bachelor of Science in Business, Management, and Economics.

Drawing inspiration from her family, community, local history, and the quiet magic of everyday life, Dawn is the author of the Liam children’s picture book series: Liam’s Not So Horrible Monday, Liam’s Christmas Conundrum, Liam and the Shadow Crow, and Liam and the Story Beneath His Feet.

In 2026, Liam and the Shadow Crow won the CNY Book Award for Children’s Books, presented by the Writers Voice of the YMCA of CNY and sponsored by Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. Her debut title, Liam’s Not So Horrible Monday, was previously named a Top 3 Finalist for a 2024 CNY Book Award and was nominated for a Feathered Quill Book Award and placed third in The Citizen / AuburnPub’s “Best Local Author” competition.

Her fourth title, Liam and the Story Beneath His Feet, brings young readers into the history beneath the communities of Central New York and reached #1 in Children’s American History – 2000s on Amazon.

Her fifth book, Liam and The Goodbye That Wasn’t, is currently in development with a planned Christmas 2026 release. Through metaphor and subtle humor, the story explores how a child copes with the loss of a beloved pet and discovers that goodbye doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the love, memories, and connection they shared.

When Dawn isn’t writing, she can often be found planting her gardens and canning and preserving what they produce. She is also a member of her local Lions Club and continues to develop other creative projects, including Unsinkable Dreams: Reg’s Story, a four-act historical drama based on the true life and legacy of a local man who perished aboard the Titanic.

In addition to her writing, Dawn is a marketing enthusiast, guest contributor to her local newspaper, and a commissioned New York State Notary Public.
