David Tracey is a writer and environmental designer specializing in community ecology. He has a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture and a BA in Politics. He is the principal of EcoUrbanist Design+Media and the Executive Director of Tree City, a Vancouver citizens' group caring for the urban forest. As a global journalist he has reported on politics, culture and the environment from countries on six continents for the International Herald Tribune, the Washington Post, the Economist, CBC-Radio and many others. He is the author of Urban Agriculture: Ideas and Designs for the New Food Revolution which Vandana Shiva called "a roap map to food security," and Guerrilla Gardening: A Manualfesto which popularized reclaiming public space with plants. His comedy novel The Miracle Tree follows a rookie reporter sent to cover a tree that might make wishes come true, sparking a media frenzy and a reluctant personal search for authenticity. His most recent book is the novel The Mustard Seed, a "hard-boiled Buddhist thriller" set amid the turmoil of southern Sri Lanka in the late '80s.
