David Meier was born on September 22, 1969, to a then
family of five. He was born at a hospital in Hayward, California.
Within the next three or so years, that family of five would become
a family of eight; a mother and father and six boys made up the
Meier family. David was raised in a small neighborhood in Fremont,
California, until he was twelve years old. With the divorce of his parents,
his mother moved their family to Salem, Oregon, where he later
attended high school at South Salem High. Upon graduating, David
joined the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in Oahu,
Hawaii, for three years and then in New Orleans, Louisiana, where
he completed his six-year career. David moved to Portland, Oregon,
after his exit from the marines.

During his Marine Corps career, David had plunged into alcoholism,
which came to a horrible incident with alcohol poisoning.
Determined to change his life, David went back to his religious roots
looking for a meaning to his life and looking for change. David’s
warped view of God only brought him to despair as he expected
God to miraculously change him without himself doing the hard
work required to battle his demons of alcohol and lust. Hurts from
the divorce of his parents, the later death of his father, the loss of
his grandfather, and himself being mugged and later stabbed stayed
unresolved. These unresolved hurts killed his faith, and David left
the church. A good-paying computer job with the government, a
marriage to woman with kids, and the purchase of a house followed
his exit from the church and gave David what he was looking for in
life but it was just a temporary bandage to the pain that was inside.
Within those ten years that David was away from the church, he lost
his computer job, his marriage ended in divorce, his house had to be
sold, and he ended up in a one-bedroom apartment all alone.

David came to the Portland International Church of Christ
with a resolve to be open and honest about the pains in his life and
the hatred he had toward God for the disappointing events in his life.
With the help of a loving church family and Christian brothers willing
to teach him what the Bible actually says in regard to becoming
and living as a disciple, in 2007, David was baptized and became a
true disciple himself. He is faithful to this day. Not only that, but he
found a wife in the church and now has a wonderful five-year-old
son named Charlie Lux Meier.
