David Meek is a retired U.S. Army Major, educator, and author whose life has been shaped by faith, service, hardship, leadership, and restoration. For more than thirty-five years, he has worked in education, including many years serving students with special needs and students whose behavioral and emotional challenges often place them at the margins of traditional classrooms. He also completed twenty years of military service, including deployments to Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay.

David earned a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management and three master’s degrees in School Administration, Student Learning and Technology, and Special Education. He holds multiple teaching credentials and specialized authorizations in autism, traumatic brain injury, and English-language development.

His newest book, SOLDIER ON: An Afghanistan War Memoir of Leadership, Loss, Faith, and the Long Road Home, draws from the messages and journals he wrote while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011–2012. Written with nearly fifteen years of perspective, the memoir explores leadership in war, the October 29, 2011 attack in Kabul, the Soldiers who served beside him, the cost of combat that follows people home, and what it means to keep moving forward.

David is also the author of Still Being Written: God Does His Best Work in Unfinished Stories, a deeply personal account of faith, failure, trauma, recovery, and redemption. His writing is grounded in a simple belief: the most painful chapters of a person’s life do not have to become the final ones.

In November 2026, David plans to release his first children’s book, expanding his writing into stories for younger readers. In spring 2027, he plans to release a new book for educators focused on classroom management, student behavior, relationships, and understanding the needs behind challenging behavior.

Through his books and speaking, David hopes to reach veterans, educators, families, young people, and anyone who has wondered whether their past has disqualified them from a meaningful future. His message is rooted in his Christian faith: no life is beyond restoration, no past is beyond God’s grace, and an unfinished story still has room for something new.

David lives in California, where he continues to teach, write, speak, and serve others—reminding people that their story is still being written.
