David I. Schoen is a veteran educator and test-preparation expert based in Kings Park, New York. After a career as an air traffic controller at JFK International Airport, he dedicated his professional life to helping students master academic and standardized testing skills. For nearly two decades, he has taught math, English, reading, and test strategy to students of all levels—both privately and in classrooms—through his tutoring company, Tutormonsters, LI. David is the author of the acclaimed Professor Dave’s Owner’s Manual for the Digital SAT series, a comprehensive, strategy-driven collection that includes Student Workbook, Teacher’s Edition, and Home Study editions. Written in a clear, conversational voice, his manuals have become trusted guides for families and educators navigating the redesigned, adaptive SAT. He is also the creator of the popular Owner's Manual for English, an engaging resource that blends classical word roots, real-world usage, and Professor Dave’s signature humor to make vocabulary study memorable and effective. In addition to his educational works, David is the author of the novel The Whining Mill, a sharp, reflective exploration of human character and modern absurdities. Though fiction is a minor part of his writing portfolio, it reflects the same wit and insight that define his teaching and nonfiction work. When he isn’t writing or tutoring, David can be found developing new test-prep materials, mentoring students, flying Cessnas, going sporting clay shooting, playing bad golf, or cooking elaborate meals for his family and friends on Long Island.
