David Ebsworth is the pen name of retired union organiser Dave Mccall. Born in Liverpool but living in Wrexham, North Wales, since 1981, he’s the author of historical thrillers set against backgrounds as diverse as Sixth Century Britain and the Spanish Civil War. His Yale Trilogy tells the story of a celebrated figure from Welsh history, Elihu Yale – though told through the eyes of his much-maligned wife, Catherine. His 2022 novel, "The House on Hunter Street", is the saga of a fictional Welsh family caught up in the political turmoil of Liverpool in 1911. David is a popular and entertaining speaker about the background to his books at libraries, book clubs and elsewhere. In 2023 he published “Blood Among The Threads” – a historical crime story set in Wrexham during 1876, and its sequel, published in November 2024, is the Victorian Wrexham and Chester mystery, "Death Along The Dee". His latest novel, "Telford's Odyssey", follows the further misadventures of his eponymous protagonist, correspondent Jack Telford, in a series of stories from the end of World War Two onwards.
