David Barrow is an ultramarathon runner, service management consultant, and author of six books, including a three-part bowel cancer diary written in real time.

The OH SH!T series covers his diagnosis, surgery, six months of chemotherapy, and what comes after. Part Three, Don’t Call It a Comeback, ends with a 107km ultramarathon on the Isle of Wight five months after finishing treatment.

Raw, honest, and occasionally very funny.

He is also the co-author of Allyship Actually: Why It’s We and Not Me, written with Lucy Hornsby, and has written two widely used service management titles — Co-Creating Value in Organisations with ITIL 4 and An Education in Service Management.

An ITIL 4 Master and Ambassador, David chairs BSI IST/60/2, the UK committee responsible for the ISO/IEC 20000 standard, and has spoken at conferences and on podcasts internationally on service management, allyship, and living with cancer.

He lives in Congleton, Cheshire, supports Liverpool FC with the level of commitment that probably should have a clinical diagnosis, and is a shareholder in Dorking Wanderers FC. He is also the organiser of Beartown Backyard Ultra — a community charity event raising funds for Bowel Cancer UK, No Tier Snooker and Astbury Mere.
