Dave Merritt was born in Tifton, Georgia in 1954 and remained there through his graduation from High School. In 1972 he joined the United States Army, attended basic training at Fort Jackson, SC and was then assigned to Fort Lee, Virginia for technical training. In 1973 dave was assigned to The Republic of Korea, and after that had assignments at Fort Benning, Fort Lee, Fort Campbell, Tampa (degree completion at St. Leo University), Germany, Fort Leavenworth, and Fort Sam Houston. His final assignment was to Fort Lee, Virginia. Lt. Col. Dave Merritt commanded the 244th Quartermaster Battalion at Fort Lee, VA and was selected prior to his retirement to attend Senior Service College. Instead, he retired and entered the corporate world where he worked for Anteon Corporation (8 months), PriceWaterhouseCoopers (2 years), and IBM (15 years). After retirement from IBM in 2017, he started his first book Mischievous Stories, and published it in May of 2018. Dave has been married for 41 years to the former Shelia Diann Tomey of Waynesboro, VA. They have two fantastic children, Kelly and Christopher; one amazing daughter-in-law, Ryan; and five magnificent grandchildren: Hunter, Casey, Noah, Mackenzie, and Charlotte. Shelia and Dave live in Chester, Virginia and enjoy boating, RV travel, and their family.
