Darryl Houston Smith writes from the shadows of Lowell, Massachusetts, a city defined by its industrial bones and ghosts. A devotee of Dark Romanticism and the French Symbolists, Smith’s work rejects the sterile comforts of modern verse in favor of unflinching emotional honesty. His poetry is characterized by hyper-metric precision, textually dense prose, and shock-value imagery that peels back the veneer of the everyday to reveal the "compost of a thousand lives" beneath. He is obsessed with dyads, dualities, and the silence of the void. Channeling the brooding intensity of Baudelaire and the shamanistic rhythms of Jim Morrison, Smith explores the spaces where the sacred and the profane intersect. He is currently working on his second collection, featuring the titular poem, "The Fraud of Eternity."
